SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS

UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

Orlando, Florida

The School of Performing Arts at the University of Central Florida completes the first of a two phase Performing Arts Master Plan that will accommodate their expanding cultural curriculum while strengthening the visual and physical connections between the institution and the surrounding city of Orlando. The Phase One academic buildings house large dance and acting studios, rehearsal spaces for orchestra and chorus, individual practice rooms, and faculty offices. They provide technically specific acoustic proportions and separation for the teaching and rehearsal rooms while maintaining a responsive aesthetic for future construction. Courtyard facades become 'finished' edges, while surrounding exterior facades - the 'temporal' edges- await the addition of Phase II. Similar to music or dance notation, the 'finished' facades reflect the quirky syncopation of individual rooms behind.
