TWIN BIRDS, PARK CITY MUSASHIKOSUGI

Kanagawa, Japan

Occasionally the elements of a commission conspire to suggest a single solution so clearly that the exploratory phase of the design process can be devoted solely to extending and refining that vision. Such was the case with the fa├žade design for two residential towers that rise in Kawasaki City. The towers of Park City Musashikosugi, at 59 and 47 floors, respectively, are the tallest buildings in the densely developed but low-rise town and, therefore, highly visible. As the name of the complex implies, the towers have been given a park-like setting, but they are also at the hub of activity and growth: two busy rail lines of the newly built district rail station encircle them and render them auspicious. Promising a 20-minute commute to Tokyo, the railway makes Kawasaki City and, in particular, these upscale residential towers highly desirable to urban professionals who work in Tokyo.
