JINZHOU NEW CITY MASTER PLAN

Jinzhou, China

Officials from Jinzhou requested a new vision for their city's proposed waterfront re-location. Given the impact of rapid technological advances, our proposal envisions a future of increasing compression – in terms of both time and function. At its most abstract, this concept compresses a linear growth model, concentrating areas of greatest intensity within the folds. Applied to the specific site, it generates a new paradigm for urban growth that accommodates the ambiguity and flux of daily life. It provides a sustainable model of urban development by reinterpreting traditional zoning to allow mixed uses, decreasing the need for automobiles, balancing zones of density and porosity, creating connections with green spaces, providing specific neighborhood identities, and establishing a flexible framework of sustainable systems.
