Atlanta, Georgia

The natural and man-made landscapes surrounding Cox Corporate Headquarters enrich the daily experience of their employees. In addition to the surrounding thirty-acre wooded site in an otherwise busy section of Atlanta, a carefully orchestrated series of gardens, fountains, and terraces leads from parking to a vaulted, double-height rotunda. Instead of a purely functional approach, this passage celebrates the transition to and from the work-day. The gardens and rotunda not only physically bring people together, but also create shared spatial and sensory experiences – a benefit of public space within the private realm.  The Rotunda itself acts as a ‘living room’ that welcomes visitors while simultaneously providing a controlled access point for the five business divisions it unites. This unprogrammed space has become one of their most valuable assets – an ideal venue for civic functions that strengthens ties between company and community by sharing resources and opening their boundaries.
